Supporting Statement for MPH Public Health (International)
Why do you want to study this course?
I want to study the MPH Public Health (International) programme to deepen my
expertise in addressing malnutrition and public health challenges in resource-limited
settings. With hands-on experience managing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) cases
as a Nutrition Officer II with the Government of Tanzania, I have witnessed the
devastating impact of undernutrition on child health and community development.
This course aligns perfectly with my passion for interventions that bring together
nutrition, policy and community empowerment.
What it is about this course that is particularly suited to your needs?
The programme’s international focus, emphasis on global health challenges and
modules on epidemiology, health systems and nutrition policy are ideally suited to
my background. The opportunity to learn from leading researchers at Leeds,
combined with practical components of programme will build on my field experience
in IMAM (Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition) and quality control in food
processing.
What knowledge/skills do you expect to acquire from this course?
I expect to gain advanced skills in epidemiological methods, data analysis for public
health surveillance, programme design and evaluation and health policy
development. Specifically, I aim to strengthen my abilities in designing nutrition
interventions, conducting impact assessments and advocating for policy changes.
What are your expectations from this course in relation to your future career?
I expect the programme to position me for senior roles in public health nutrition, such
as leading nutrition programmes government agencies and local and international
NGOs in Tanzania and the East African region. It will enable me to contribute to
reducing malnutrition rates through policy influence, training health workers and
implementing community-based interventions. I aspire to advance to leadership
positions where I can design and evaluate large-scale public health initiatives to
improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations in East Africa.
