name is Agnes Nyambura Waithaka. Am a housekeeping supervisor at The Great Rift lodge andValley Golf hotel.
I have worked as a private a room steward for five years and later got got employed as a room steward at Great Rift Valley lodge and golf hotel. I have worked as a hotel room steward from 2013-2018, a period of five good years.
I am highly organized and able to multitask well. I am confident that I possess the knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of a housekeeping supervisor perfectly
My duties and responsibilities as a room steward
Signing out and in of keys, it was a daily chore to sign in my assigned guestroom keys. This was a daily routine before I get into work. Immediately am done with my day chores, it was mandatory to return the keys and sign them out. That marked the end of my day shift
I was assigned responsible for guest room cleaning.it was my duty to make sure that all my assigned guestrooms are neatly clean all guest amenities and supplies are replenished, this including changing of soiled beddings and a freshly making of the beds, cleaning of the bathrooms, replacing soiled towels with the clean ones and replenishing of toiletries.
Submitting daily house keeping report. This was a mandatory daily routine of which it involves going round all my assigned guest rooms in the morning and confirm the occupancy after which I will give the report to my supervisor. This happens again in the afternoon whereby I will give the report and status of my vacant and ready rooms ready to be allocated to the guests. The exercise will happen again while I will be ending my shift, this gives the final report and the status of my assigned guestrooms.
Maintenance report, as a room steward, it was my responsibility to identify and report any maintenance in the guest room to my supervisor to make a work order, It was my responsibility as a steward after reporting of a maintenance to make a close follow-up to make sure the situation is fixed to meet guest satisfaction to the maximum, and later give a feedback to my supervisor.
Lost and found, as a room steward, it was my responsibility to check any lost and found items in the guest room, most of this lost and found items are seen after the guest check-outs. Mediately a room steward locates any lost guest item in the room, item description, date found, room found and the name of the founder should appear on the record, the item is the given to the supervisor after which HE/She will cooperate with the front desk to get the owner.
Carpets cleaning and vacuuming. Although this is not a daily routine, this is a room steward responsibility, it is normally done weekly depending on the room steward schedule of the work, carpet cleaning requires cleaning chemicals like carpet shampoo or in its absence, general multi-purpose soap can be used, a carpet shampooing machine is needed for this exercise. While spot cleaning the carpets hand brush is the most suitable tool to use.
Responsibility of responding to all hotel guest efficiently and in appropriate friendly and professionally manner, informing my seniors in my department and other departments as need arise.
Was responsible to participate and promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
Reporting to work on time, in proper and clean uniform, including nametag. Appearance must comply with the hotel’s grooming policy

Was my all-time duty to maintain hotel security and guest privacy at all times as well as following all company and brand standards, policies, procedures and internal rules.
My duties and responsibilities as a housekeeping supervisor

Morning briefing, as a housekeeping supervisor, I have a duty to organize and conduct a morning briefing whereby all the housekeeping staffs will attend, daily arrival/departure list will be presented and read out as it defines the business and the plan of the day. It is at morning briefing where all the day announcements are made. It is the platform where all the room stewards will present their undone work-orders for a follow up.
Conducting departmental trainings.it is my duty as the supervisor to conduct orientations and trainings. This introduces the employees to the hotel’s policies and standard regulations and specific procedures. This includes professional cleaning and maintenance methods as per the hotel standards and meeting maximum guest expectations.
Work allocation, as a supervisor, I have the responsibility to create staff schedules, completing schedule and assigning tasks in advance enables effective operations by smoothly coordinating the department’s work activities. This also aids in enforcing rules and regulations about breaks and attendance.
Assigning housekeeping tasks.as a supervisor I take various roles to smoothly manage the entire department. I assign cleaning and maintenance tasks and ensures that team efficiently completes any allocated duties. I am also responsible for providing specific instructions or suggestions to meet our guest needs to excellent level.
Managing and ordering guest supplies. Am responsible for checking the guest supplies routinely to maintain adequate stock level. It is my responsibility to restock the supplies when the stock runs low. I also have to make sure that the guest supplies are at accessible point to my staffs for efficient operations.
Chipping in when my help is needed, besides being a supervisor, I work alongside my fellow stewards, sometimes the work overwhelms my staffs and I have to offer my support, this include even assist in cleaning, Dustin, bed making and any other work for timely work completion.
Attending management briefings. As a housekeeping supervisor, it is my duty to represent my department in the organization meetings, this is for discussing the company’s updated policies. It also ensures that the team members are aware of important information and procedure changes.
Signing out and in of keys, as a supervisor, it is my responsibility to sign out the keys before the morning briefings from the key security personnel records, before issuing them to the room stewards. At the end of the day, I will receive keys from
the keys, I am responsible for signing them in again.
Responsible for line stock taking.as a supervisor it is my monthly responsibility to motivate staffs to carry on linen stock taking, I will later compile all the stock taking lists and submit them to the manager. This helps in planning linen addition regularly/.
Staff evaluation exercise.it is my duty as a supervisor to carry on appraisals to my staffs, I must have a sensible schedule while doing this keen exercise as it involves having face to face with the appraisee, will need to discuss in details everything in the appraisal form. Later on, I will compile all the appraisal forms and submit them to the company human resource manager.
Managing staff leaves and off days, I have a duty to keenly plan for my staff leaves and off days, alternation plan works so well, this minimizes accumulation of off days and pending leaves.
Guestroom inspection.it is my responsibility to inspect every check-in room and give a go-ahead to the front desk for allocation.
However, despite this being an enjoyable and interesting job I succumbs a quite number of challenges while in operations;
Security cases. Theft cases, although very rare have been a disturbing challenge. Housekeeping staffs are the ears and eyes of the hotel.it is importance to train staffs to be able to analyze and report any suspicious issue.
Health and safety. Housekeeping involves physical works always i.e., lifting and moving of furniture’s. Injuries do happen while carrying out some of these chores. Proper trainings on postures while lifting should be done. Staffs should be trained on proper handling of cleaning chemicals to avoid injuries and accidents
Reputations. A happy customer always talks about experience had and even recommends you. This is also true to unsatisfied customer, sometimes these comments appear in their social media platforms and as it is, one person’s influence can be really surprising and wide reaching. Thorough staff training should be done on how to professionally handle guest complains and work efficiently to minimize such incidence
Guest pressure. Most of the time, guests request late check outs, this gives housekeeping staff a challenge to timely clean the room and make it ready for the next check-in. Encouraging team work for faster working in such a room has been my solution.
My housekeeping work has provided me with valuable experience that allow me to apply theoretically knowledge to practical scenarios.it has broadened my perspective on the importance of housekeeping in the hospitality industry and honed my skills and abilities.it has provided me with the necessary ground work to pursue a career in housekeeping skills and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the effort put in by the housekeeping staffs in making guest experience memorable.
It is quite a challenge connecting with my family and my work at the same time mainly because of nature of my career. however, I make use of a break of off days accumulated for a period of three to four months and my annual leave to connect with my family.
In additional to my professional experience, I have attended on-the-job training in different over the time in Tara suites and Kenya Utalii College. I am interested in elevating my professional and prospects by working for a company like yours that values hard work, effort and loyalty in housekeeping role.
